Our Sitting Volleyball program is running on Fridays from 6-8 PM, at Frenchmans Bay Public School in Pickering, starting on January 20th.  It is open to all – including disabled and able-bodied athletes.  From these sessions we will be filding a team in the inaugural Ontario Provincial Sitting Volleyball Championship at RIM Park in Waterloo in April.  If you are interested in trying it out please contact Lawrence Flynn –

Durham Attack Teams – sitting volleyball is a great way to develop skills, and a lot of fun.  Again this year, if you support our program on a Friday night by attending as a team, we will contribute $100 towards a team dinner afterwards.

Many sports clubs don’t last ten years.  But we have something really special here at DA that our athletes, parents and alumni believe in, and we will celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2012!  To comemorate the occasion we are planning to produce really SPECIAL clothing for our 2011-2012 season.

We are looking for a logo and slogan design that reflects our values, our achievements, and the culture of our club in all that we do – competitively, recreationally, and with our emerging programs such as Sitting Volleyball.

In return, you can win a Hundred Bucks cash, some SWAG, and bragging rights for an eternity.

Sitting Volleyball Open Houses (Oct 15/22) Kick Off Sitting Volleyball League

Durham Attack and Volleyball Canada are joining forces to lead the way in sport development in the Durham Region.  On Friday October 15th and Friday October 22nd, from 6 to 8 pm at Msgr. John Pereyma High School at 316 Conant St, Oshawa, Durham Attack, in conjunction with Volleyball Canada, will host two nights of sitting volleyball open houses.  The first session will include a coaching session from Men’s National Sitting Team Head Coach, Ian Halliday.  Following the two open houses, where everyone will have the opportunity to sit down and play the game, Durham Attack will play host to North America’s first fully integrated sitting volleyball league, every Friday evening at Msgr. John Pereyma.

Sitting Volleyball is an exciting, fast paced game that originated in England after the second world war as a means to assist in the rehabilitation of injured veterans.  The game is played sitting on the floor and is governed by the same set of rules as “traditional” volleyball, with a few minor rule modifications.  The sitting volleyball court measures 10m x 6m, divided by the net into two sides of 5m deep by 6m wide.  The net height is lower than that of traditional volleyball and is set at a height of 1.05m for women and 1.15m for men.

Last month Volleyball Canada, Durham Attack Volleyball Club and Camp Madawaska  joined forces to provide fully integrated weekends of team building and sport development to help celebrate Sport Day in Canada.

The women’s National Sitting Volleyball Team converged on Camp Madawaska from across Canada to combine a weekend training session with instructional sessions with Durham Attack’s U16, U17 and U18 boys and girls teams. The National Team members, along with head coach Larry Matthews, from Edmonton Alberta, conducted Sitting volleyball clinics for the six club teams as they prepare for their upcoming Ontario Volleyball Association season.

Founding President of Durham Attack, Scott Burrows, was thrilled with the opportunity for the club to participate in the ongoing development of the most successful National Team program in Volleyball Canada history, Team Canada Disabled Volleyball. The Durham Attack athletes including 18U boys all-stars Rob Wojcik, Alexander Elliott and Alex Dawson, were able to observe and get pointers from members of the National Sitting Volleyball Team, while spending a weekend of team building in the beautiful isolation of Camp Madawaska, in the heart of Ontario’s Renfrew County.

Camp directors Carrie and Ian Eibbitt, along with their entire staff, welcomed the ladies from the National Team and provided them with an excellent training and team building facility as they continue in the hunt for a berth in the 2012 Paralympic games.  Madawaska’s long history of volleyball excellence, the beautiful setting and the spirit of the hundreds of thousands of volleyball players, coaches and supporters before them, will long be remembered by the National Team members, as key ingredients in the success of the women’s sitting volleyball program.

Be a part of the Friday evening fun with Durham Attack and Volleyball Canada, bring your friends and teach them a few things while all of you learn a new game.
